Introduction
ICLON Research Program 2009
The ICLON research program is titled ‘The knowledge base of teaching’, and started in 1995. Research on this knowledge base aims to help bridge the gap between educational theory and actual teaching practice, teacher education, and the further professional development of teachers.
The ICLON research program encompasses two related research themes:
- Teachers’ knowledge as an essential component of the knowledge base of teaching
- The professional development of teachers.
Within each research theme, a series of research projects is conducted. Most of the projects concern secondary teaching, although there are also projects aimed at higher education teaching and vocational education teaching.
The ICLON research program is currently led by Nico Verloop, Jan van Driel, Hans Hulshof, and Jan van Tartwijk. At present, 29 researchers are participating in the program.
The program is conducted within the framework of the Dutch Interuniversity Centre for Educational Research (ICO), which is accredited by the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW).
